SUMMARY:Scottish Christmas Walk Parade - Old Town Alexandria
DESCRIPTION:Annual Parade\nSaturday\, December 1\, 2018@11:00 a.m. in Old Town Alexandria \nFor the 47th consecutive year\, we proudly present The Campagna Center’s Scottish Christmas Walk Parade. Enjoy marching units filled with the magnificent tartans of Scottish Clans\, the stirring sound of Scottish bagpipes and drums\, Scottish dancers\, reenactment groups\, Scottie dogs\, dignitaries\, classic cars\, Santa Claus\, and much more.  The parade begins at St. Asaph and Wolfe Streets and concludes at Market Square with a massed band concert.  The parade will take place rain or shine. \n\n  \n \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParade Route \nWe will follow the same parade route and instructions as we did last year. The parade will begin at South St. Asaph and Wolfe Streets and will end at Market Square at the intersection of King and Pitt Streets. Please do not stop in front of the reviewing stand but continue along the route. At the intersection of Pitt and King\, Pipe Bands will continue to the right behind Market Square and await the massed band concert. All other participants will go to the left at Pitt Street. Signage and parade marshals will help direct participants and bands. \n***Please note that once starting down the parade route\, participants must maintain spacing between groups to ensure a smooth flowing parade. While performances are an important part of the weekend\, if your group cannot perform while marching\, please keep pace and perform for the crowd at the end of the parade at Market Square. Route marshals will be positions throughout the parade to help maintain the pace and flow. Thank you for understanding.*** \nWreath Laying Ceremony \nAt 9:00 a.m. on the morning of the parade\, the Saint Andrew’s Society of Washington\, D.C. invites you to a Wreath Laying Service at the historic Old Presbyterian Meeting House\, 321 South Fairfax Street. The wreath is placed on the tomb of the City of Alexandria founder\, William Hunter\, in the Meeting House cemetery. \nFestive Attire \nWe request all those marching to dress in traditional Scottish or festive holiday attire.  We also ask that groups refrain from having Santa as a character in their groups.  The arrival of Santa at the end of the parade is a beloved Scottish Walk tradition in Alexandria and many parents count on us not to spoil this for the children in the crowd. \nVolunteers \nWe are very fortunate to have many volunteers working to make this year’s Walk a reality. We extend our thanks to the Saint Andrew’s Society of Washington\, D.C. for partnering with The Campagna Center to produce the parade. We appreciate your patience as the volunteers work alongside you to make this Walk a great success! If you need help on the morning of the parade please look for volunteers ready and able to assist you at the Registration Table. \nWeekend Activities \nThe Campagna Center hosts the Parade and festivities to raise funds for the Center’s programs. Touching the lives of 1\,700 children each day\, The Campagna Center is the leading non-profit in Alexandria providing educational and developmental services for children and families. Please visit www.CampagnaCenter.org/scottis hwalkweekend for more details on pre- and post-Parade activities\, all of which benefit The Campagna Center. For more information on The Campagna Center and its programs\, please visit www.CampagnaCenter.org.
